Deploying Windows Mobile 6 with Windows Small Business Server 2003

Do you want to add Windows Mobile devices to your network? Is your network based either on the Windows Small Business Server 2003 (Windows SBS) server software with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or on Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2? If so, you can use the step-by-step instructions in this downloadable document to deploy devices that are powered by the Windows Mobile 6 software on a Windows SBS network.

You can download the document by clicking here.

Why Mobile 6 on a small business network?

Windows Mobile 6 now integrates the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) which was previously an add-on for Windows Mobile 5. This delivers features such as:

  • Direct Push Technology (receive items such as new emails, calendar and contact changes, and task updates, that are stored on the Exchange server)
  • Wireless support for contact information (where you can look up your Global Address List, aka GAL, which is stored on the Exchange server)
  • Remotely enforced security policies (to make sure company property isn’t mis-used)
  • Local device wipe (so you can reset the device after a specified number of incorrect logon attempts)
  • Remote device wipe (in case you leave it on the back seat of the taxi…)

    Hi Susanne,
Just thought I would add one piece to the above.
With SBS R2 as long as you have done the full install, includes Exchange 2003 Service Pack Two, this adds the extra functionality to get the Push Email to Windows Mobile 5 and 6 devices.
For SBS 2003 SP1 this is a free upgrade and well worth the install, as one extra reward is the size limit of the the stores changed from 16 to 18GB, bt with the extra reg key expandable to 75GBs.
    Hope all is well,
    David
