Blogging

I had a chat with a new friend of mine within Microsoft at the weekend and we got onto the topic of blogging. We were deciding whether blogging was always appropriate and what motivates someone to start one.

Within my presentation of ‘Daring to be different’ I talk about how blogging has benefited various Partners in our Community and indeed, as well as a new way of marketing (or ‘marcomms’ as some say), it also helps create and maintain personality of the author in a world where it is better for the audience to chose what they hear and see as opposed to what is forced upon them.

I have far too many feeds in my RSS folder but I keep them for those times when I am unusually offline so that I can consider them better. One of those feeds is Steve Clayton’s and I wanted to link back to a recent post of his which I think is useful for anyone blogging or thinking of blogging to read:

“Top 10 tips for blogging:

1.Be Authentic

2.Be patient

3.Answer every comment

4.Don’t sell

5.Link. Link. Link

6.Traffic isn’t the goal, conversations is

7.Blog frequently

8.Expect criticism

9.Don’t blog when you’re drunk/down/angry

10.Blog Smart!”
