Windows XP SP3
On Tuesday (28/08/07), Microsoft announced the plans for the third service pack (SP3) for Windows XP as a roll up of all the hot fixes and patches including security updates, out of band releases, and hotfixes. This is standard practice to release a service pack as a release nears end-of-life. There are no new features in Windows XP SP3, with the exception of Network Access Protection, a capability in Windows Vista that is also being made available on Windows XP SP3 and will require Windows Server 2008.
Anticipated release time: First half of 2008
Microsoft Windows Life Cycle Policy
Windows XP to be retired in 2008 - pre-installed Operating Systems from the likes of HP, Dell, and Toshiba to cease on 31st January 2008 but OEM for System Builders will be 31st January 2009.
