Outlook 2007 | RSS Feeds

It was a normal day in where some may call ‘the wrong side of the M25′ and something wasn’t quite right…
… it was quiet…
… almost too quiet…
I had been receiving feeds from the various blogs I subscribe to but there were some RSS links that didn’t reflect the ‘outgoing’ personalities of the authors (inc. mine!) and hadn’t updated for a few days. After popping on various sites I discovered that my RSS feeds in Outlook 2007 weren’t updating!
If you find you get the same, here are four solutions you might want to try to resolve the issue:
- Close Outlook and restart your machine
- In Documents and Settings\username\local settings\applicationdata\microsoft\outlook (or Users\***\AppData\Local\Microosft if using Vista) and delete the file ending in sharing.xml.obi (make sure you keep it in the Recycle bin just in case)
- Export all your feeds as OPML (File, Import and Export), delete them all and re-import the OPML
- Delete your RSS feeds within Outlook, export the RSS feeds from IE7 (File, Import and Export) to Outlook - this will recover all your feeds including those you may have deleted from Outlook 2007 previously.
Be prepared to be pressing CTRL +A, and Mark All As Read a few times once you have recovered your feeds.
*Update*
If this doesn’t work, you may want to go into Control Panel and repair Office 2007…

[…] We have had our fair share of obstacles here ourselves (dirty shutdowns, slow indexing within Outlook, RSS feed problems etc…) but are using the Microsoft teams to iron out any problems we have. We’ve noticed that different machines are getting different issues (some v. interesting) and we wouldn’t want our clients to go through the same. After justifying the investment in new software and ‘tin’, you don’t want to take them two steps back after taking one forward. […]
