New Year, New Marathon
To my fellow runners in the community (and for those who are generally interested!);
The first week of January marks the start of my 16 week training plan for the London Flora Marathon. I’ve booked in for some half marathons (I’ve left a few weekends free so that I can run in some other regional runs with community friends) and I also have some hill to climb that nobody would know about. I was reading up on someone’s trek up to Base Camp and she reported she was burning 5,000 calories a day! Can you imagine how much Kendal Mint Cake she was eating?!?!?
This time last year had some challenges of its own and distracted me from training properly for the 2006 Marathon. However, I completed it despite hobbling the last few miles and although I am dissapointed that I didn’t get my goal time I am proud to have the medal to prove my achievement.
So this year I am doing things a little differently and I have to thank my friends already for their ideas and support;
- I’m joining a local running club for a weekly Wednesday run
- I’m going running with friends and if they don’t want to run then they are going to cycle and be my pacemaker
- I am going to take up Power Yoga - this is important for core inner strength (thanks Adam for the heads up!)
- And finally, I’m making sure I tell everyone about what I am up to so I can’t miss a few training sessions and know that people won’t notice. Yes Tim, that means you and I are going to be having more running IM conversations so that we both stick to it!
I will be running for the same charity this year as I feel they still deserve as much support as possible. Lasers for Life uses laser technology to make a huge difference to people suffering from a wide range of serious conditions including cancers and Alzheimer’s disease. It has the potential to diagnose as well as treat diseases and is also a valuable alternative to conventional surgery. In order to develop this treatment, they need to be about to research into it further, and to enable them to carry this out they need the support of fundraisers and this is where I choose to get involved.
If you would like to get involved by supporting me on my quest to complete the 2007 Flora London Marathon in a faster time and without injury then I welcome and value your support.

All positive support and advice is welcome, please add your comments below as I know fellow runners preparing for the Marathon will be reading them.
If you fancy joining in on one of the Sunday runs I am booking in then let me know - at least you’ll get some amusing photos of me looking like a red faced raspberry or leaving in something like the vehicle below!
[…] Lose the weight I’ve put on over Christmas (and if I’m honest over the last 2 years). Maybe I should start training with Susanne, although the thought of trying to keep up is enough to have me calling for the stretcher already! […]
